03.19.12 Versus

“Notice what is easier for you,” she says in class today. “Whether it is easier to be still, or whether it is easier to move.”

And I am thinking how this is true not just of yoga, but of life…Whether it is easier to stay or go, to speak up or be silent, to accept what is–the status quo–or to do what is necessary, what must be done. Whether you stay in toxic situations, dangerous relationships, whether you leave.

The quality of action. The quality of non-action.

The understanding that too much of one is just as bad as too much of the other….the understanding of the relationship of passivity, of acceptance, to action…how one way of being always seem so much harder than the other; why?

How to know when to be like water, when to be like fire.

The quality of discernment…

How to know the difference.
